How is a food co-op different from other grocery stores?

A:

Unlike the larger food store chains, co-ops are independently owned and operated and have a commitment to providing year-round access to healthy, locally produced natural and organic foods. Most importantly, co-ops are 100% member-owned and controlled. Co-ops are mission driven rather than profit driven, and each member has a say in how the co-op will be run and how it will meet the needs of the community it serves.
